SENAP AGM - May 10th 2008

The SENAP AGM will be held in The Parkway Hotel, Dunmanway on Tuesday 13th May 2008 at 9pm sharp

Guest speaker will be Kathleen Lowney, Acting director and ICT advisor of the West Cork Education Centre, Speaking on the supports and services available within the educational system for children with Special Educational Needs.

All are welcome.

As we need to have some idea of attendance we would be obliged if you could contact one of us and put your name down if interested.

SENAP Public Information Meeting - April 10th 2008

The next Public Information meeting will be held in The Parkway Hotel, Dunmanway on Thursday 10th April at 8pm sharp, kindly sponsored by Derry O' Connell, Eurospar, Dunmanway .

This Public Information Evening will be on Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Neuro Developmental Therapy (Laura Hatton) and Occupational Therapist HSE (Charlotte Sullivan).

All are welcome to attend.

Fashion Show - November 8th 2007

SENAP will hold a fashion show in the Parkway Hotel, Dunmanway on Thursday night, November 8th at 8:00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Offical Launch of SENAP - October 13th 2007

The official launch of SENAP will take place in the Westlodge Hotel, Bantry on Saturday night, October 13th at 8:30pm.

SENAP will also make available on the night, Booklets on advice and support for parents of pre-school children.

Evening Echo Mini Marathon - September 23rd 2007

Mags O' Donoghue will take part in the Evening Echo Mini Marathon on Sunday, September 23rd as a fund raising venture. Sponsorship is appreciated.

Public Meeting - "How far have we come?”- February 9th 2007

P at Curtin, National Council for Special Education, will inform us on how the Submission put forward to the Minister for Education was accepted and what we can hope to achieve from this. Fidelma Brady, Education Officer with Down Syndrome Ireland, will give a presentation on how she feels we have progressed. At present we are in negotiation with the NEPS office, hoping to get a psychologist from their Dept. also.


Public Meeting - Inclusion of Pupils with Special Education Needs in Mainstream School. - October 12th.

William Kinsella, MA in Education Psychology, Lecturer in Education. William is giving a presentation on research he has done with the Equality Authority on “Inclusion of pupils with special education needs in mainstream school”. Also speaking will be: Martin Clancy, a principal in St. Colmans boys NS who has done tremendous work in inclusion and integration; Caroline Dwyer, a mother of two children, ADD and ADHD, who has had a constant battle with getting provisions for her children; and Seamus Greene, National Parents and Siblings Alliance, on what steps need to be taken in achieving an inclusive education for all.


Speech and Language Workshop - November 12th.

A workshop with Speech and Language Therapist Isolda O’Connor. Isolda has been practising as a Speech and Language Therapist for 20 years. She trained in Trinity College and her additional qualifications include Specific Learning Disability, Hearing Difficulty, Lámh, Oralmotor Therapy and Psychotherapy. Her topic on the night is “Setting Language and Communication Goals for our child”.

Isolda will be accompanied with Anne Healy, a play therapist. Anne trained as a play therapist at the University of York. She came from a background in residential care. Her work is well known as she currently practises play therapy in a self-employed capacity in West Cork. Her particular interests are in attachments and children with special needs.
